I'm in the process of purchasing a mig welder to preform sheetmetal work on my projects. Does anyone have experiance with mig welders with & with out gas.I'v welded with gas & I love it but is it nessecary? I have the opretunity to purchase a mig welder that uses Flux wire only, will it do the job as well as using gas. I have to replace floor pans and some cab work & was wondering if it wold do the job. Any information would apprecated.
    Thanks Steve

I have a Millermatic 130 and started off welding w/.035 flux core
didn't know what I was missing until I switched to .032 solid wire
    w/co2/Argon mix.
As far as the sheet metal goes on my 58,I sure wish I would have switched to the .032/gas mix along time ago.
I guess Tig is the ultimate way to go,but can't afford it with my
    pocket book.
    anyway,Good luck!Allen

i don't think that the flux coated wire welds as good as the gas.
    but thats my opinion.

A buddy of mine who does body work told me that mig with the gas is better because it allows for a clean weld that won't rust from the inside out. I had asked him about a welder and that is what he told me. He is very particular about his body work jobs too.
