IIIIIIIII HATE MY TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
What happened? Did it throw the rod ? You said it was making a knocking sound in one of your last post.
Bad engine (NEW) Brand New Small Block, new fuel injection great oil pressure. Engine ran 5 minutes and seized. Yes engine lube was used during build and engine break in oil was used. Nate was right,I should have let this project go to the crusher!
OUCH....Ol'Chebby is right, there was a major malfunction in the build. Let us know what happened, knowledge is power....and I am having a black out...
Bummer , That However , you can make a learning experiance out of it . Who built the engine ? . Maybe it's not hard siezed and can be saved & patched . Don't give up , every old truck owner goes through this .
Water EVERYWHERE Removed the intake manifold and water is in 4 cylinders causing a hydro lock. Water is also in the oil and now I would summize it's in all the bearings too. A local race shop rebuilt the motor and I am waiting to hear back from them. The engine never got to 100 degrees before all this happened. I checked the intake gasket when I removed the intake and the gasket around the water flows are intact. A nice day to find out you have just wasted $2000 and with my very limited time I get to spend at home this project is probably going down the road. Before I removed the intake I filled the radiator with water and removed all the spark plugs, water runs right from the radiator to cylinders 3,4 7 and 5 and out the park plug holes.F%$#
Dang ! Sounds like something is cracked or maybe they didn't position a gasket correctly... I avoid the V-hate mills as much as possible but it's gotta be fairly simple . Once you get it blasting down the road , you'll look back and laugh , not now though , we're right with you , don't give up .
Update I talked with the motor builder and we agreed to pull the motor again and he will make it right, I put a video scope in the number 4 cylinder and found a crack in the cylinder wall. oh well at least it will get fixed.
!! Do yourself a favor and check the bore of the main bearings , we had a few 350 engines a few years ago that were align bored .020" off when new , the crankshaft boring is the first cut they make on a new cylinder block so if it's off you get shifted cylinder bores , un even deck heights etcetera , as all the machine work is done based on the main bearing bores . All these engines failed within 10,000 miles (they were all in Medium duty trucks) and GM told us ' tough luck ' so we had to buy Target (crate) engines as they were not rebuildable . The Hot Rodder in the shop stripped them for the brandy new cranks , heads and so on but a crack in a cylinder wall is a serious thing , yes you can press in new liners but it's rarely worth the trouble as there's millions of really good low milage 350 core engines about you can overhaul and they're cheap.
Engine is back I picked up the engine from the builder yesterday, right side head had cracked in the number 4 cylinder. The builder completely covered the cost of fixing this and broke down the rest of the engine just to make sure there were no other issues. It's nice to see small a business owner taking care of their customers. Now we will see if the timeout the truck has been in will make it behave any better. With my travel schedule for work it will be close to December before everything will be back together, maybe an early Christmas present.
Good Deal ! It is nice to see there's still a few shops that are honest and reliable . Be sure to reward him with a 6 pack when it's done . I know your pain , two steps forward , one step back is the norm on some jobs .
The good old days returned! Remember back when it was a given that if a business did something like this, you didn't have to hold your breath and wonder about the outcome? I'm happy for you that it turned out for the good! Now days, I believe the odds were against you.
