My '57 GMC V8 (probably not what you are asking about) uses a single mount in the front and two bellhousing mounts.

The 55-59 chevys that came from the factory with the V8 used the front mounts. If your using a manual transmission than I'd use the front mounts. However If your going to go with an automatic you should use a crossmember and the side mounts. Chris

I just don't know if they will take 450hp pounding on that style of mount. Maybe it will i don't know.

    Matt,
I run the front mounts and i have a 500 horse 383.Don't forget the main load is on the tranny mounts.Hope my 2 cents helps you out.But if you have a GMC i would run the side because the GMC's use a "U" front motor mount and is not to stable.

i have two 58's one suburban the other stepside short wheel base the pickup uses side mounts because the 396 aka rat motor is about 2 inches longer than a small block !!!! with a big block your stock throttle linkage wont work either and you guessed it custom headers to clear steering box !!!! :D
