Can someone tell me if this combo will work.A 88 305 with older heads off a 305.A stealth intake that is rated 2000-6500 rpm.A lunati camshaft with a 284 dur.that is rated 2000-6500 rpm with a edelbrock carb 750.

sorry to be the bad news bear but the 305 does not rev like a 307,327,350,or a 283 its bore is too small for the stroke and the heads are junk

Personally I would go with an Edelbrock 600 CFM. I have a 305 in my 65 PU and I recently put in HEI, 4-Barrel Chevy manifold, still has stock cam. I have had to de-jet the 600 CFM a bit to run right on the stock set-up. My Impala w/350 is a perfect match for the 600 CFM. So I'd 86 the 750 idea unless you get really radical. Hope that helps a bit. By the way, a 305 doesn't rev as high as other smallblocks but the heads (and anything else for that matter), in my experience, certainly are not junk because I drive and have seen many 305's go over 200,000 miles without a rebuild.

I was not speaking in terms of durability I was speaking in terms of performance. The heads have very pore flow characteristics. They where for a low rpm torque motor not a high revver and the small combustion chambers shroud the valves. Don’t get me wrong the 305 is a very durable and dependable motor it just is not a very good performance engine yes you can make good power with them but this almost always includes a head swap

I personally like the new vortc truck heads they flow just as well as some of the well known aftermarket head and will easily support 380 HP I read in an article from one of the high performance mags, that these heads, even with 1.94/1.50 valves, flow better than the World Products Sportsman II heads with 200cc intake runners, and 2.02/1.6 valves, there are 2 probs one you have to run a different intake. I think PN#2116 is the Performer. It is basically a stock replacement performance intake. It has an rpm range of idle to 5500 rpm. If you want the high rise dual plane Performer Rpm, Pn#7116. It has an rpm range of idle to 6500rpm both from edelbrock and gm has 2 or 3 of them. they are about 430 where i am but you can get them for about 400 some times, then there are the springs they wont live very long if you go bigger than 460 lift. the vortecs need self aligning rocker arms too and are center bolt style valve cover heads but they out flow the old 2.02 1.60 fulie heads i think they have 64 cc combustion chambers
