I have started restoring a 50, problem is I took apart 7 years ago and after moving from one garage to the other I am missing some bolts! Is there any place that has a bolt package for the whole truck?
Hardware Yes , there are some suppliers that sell the hardware pre packaged and labeled so you'll know what goes where , I just don't know _who_ sell these Hwe. Kits . Maybe the host here ? , it's worth a look . I typically re use original Hwe. as it's all top quality and once cleaned & de rusted it's better than any new stuff , just takes more time to do..... You can use a $25 Lapidary Tumbler from WallyMart if you're ca$h strapped .
What are you missing? Body/Fender stainless kits from Carter's, all labelled and counted. But Frame/motor chassis......look in my coffee cans but your on your own. I did find a 7/16" fine thread after an hour....but i needed two.....still looking.
Bolt Kits Totally Stainless sells the kits. The only problem I had with mine was the bolts supplied for the water pump only had four bolts of the same length when the pump uses two short and two long ones. I had to find, clean and replace the two long ones which didn't come with the kit.
as much as i'd hate to promote another parts company on this site, Classic Industries sells complete bolt kits for the AD trucks....which i think are from totally stainless. they're not cheap though i'll warn ya that ahead of time.
Bolt kits are a great way to go. If you price stainless hardware from the hardware store, you are in the same range price wise. Be forewarned.....the kits NEVER have all the hardware you need. There are always discrepancies in the pieces you need, but they do have most parts and are a great wy to re organize your leftover hardware. I used a bolt kit on the 53 I restored. Look at the time vs money aspect. How much time will you spend on raking through the box of hardware, cleaning, painting and scratching the old stuff? What is your time worth? If you have more time than $$$$ then by all means, start digging. I'm all about streamlining. I'll spend a little more and save a lot more time, especially on customer's cars.
Thanks! thanks guys! I will check them out. I also found another truck, really bad shape, I will try to talk the guy out of the bolts I need. Just started putting back together, doing all myself, so not a good start when you can't find the first bolts you need!!!!!!
