We have a 57 Chevy (car) and a 70 Olds 442 in the shop that we put the LS2 engines into them. These engines are some of the best ever and also the all time ugliest in appearence. So ugly they make a cover to completely hide the whole top of the engine. The smallest in the LS engine family is a 4.8L and in an article in the August 2013 Hot Rod (page 130) a factory 4.8 with an add on turbo kit made 1203hp--not bad. Now to the game changer; the 57 would start after much cranking, not idle, and die without warning at any rpm. Our fuel injection/computer/wiring guru hooked his laptop up to it and said to get a new ACCELERATOR PEDAL. New pedal and it fires up immediately, idles dead smooth, and revs instantly. I hate it when the machines are smarter than me.

Next thing you know, it'll be telling you it is time to rotate the muffler bearings.

and if an electric accelerator pedal isn't enough...

There is a company that now sells an electronic device which plugs in between said pedal and computer. It has several "modes", including a very snappy accel/decel profile to emulate a light-flywheeled engine, a "lazy" hard-to-push feel (said to increase economy), and others.

I can say the LS engine in my 4-door sedan (an aluminum, 6.0 Liter, 425 horsepower version) is leaps, bounds, head AND shoulders better than anything I have ever had the pleasure of tickling with my right foot. Oh, and there's the 24mpg on the highway part. Tire wear is an issue however. SOMEDAY, the 5.3L LS nestled between Penny's framerails will sing again!

Ugly as a mud fence though...

    Meanwhile.......

Somewhere way out West there's a battered old Chevrolet pickup truck with a worn out I6 engine going down the Highway trailing a light blue plume of oil smoke..............

Bill, Nate, your not too old to learn new tricks. I'm almost 54 and I ain't scared. Well, except when that massive EMP hits, but, then I probably won't be able to buy any gas anyway.

When the EMP hits, only the magneto-equipped will roll! I just KNEW Dad had big plans for his '11 (thats 1911), Hupmobile!

And it's mumbling something like "whippersnappers" and "get off my driveway" ;)
My old push rod V-8's fire up immediately, idle dead smooth, and rev instantly and they'll do that with or without an accelerator pedal. :p

You are correct Sir ! this is why my '69 C/10's clapped out 250 CID I6 sports a stock 1976 Chevy Nova (? didja know " NOVA" in Spanish means " No Go "?) HEI fully electronic distributor , this was the cheap and easy way to keep it running (0.75" plug gaps) until I get a nice 292 into it .

The day I stop learning , is the day I die , no time son I hope :D .

Lakeroadster Wrote (sorry , I forgot your name again) : And it's mumbling something like "whippersnappers" and "get off my driveway"

    Naw , that'd be ME .

On a brighter front , I may have found a place that'll install my windshield , I already decided to junk the Chinese grommet that's only three years old ~ when I find a pla ce I'll kick out the old glass and hand polish then wax the pincheld as that's where the rust always begins , besides : having shiny waxed paint there , makes the grommet *so* much easier to install , I can always get some clear RTV / Urethane and squirt it under the rubber's lip to prevent leaks , after the glass is in .

I'm preparing my old Mercedes for a two day Road Rally Sunday and surprised myself yesterday by hand polishing then hand waxing ('hand' means : NO machine = no swirl marks) the entire car ~ yes I'm in serious pain since then but , if I can still do this much work , my truck will prolly be next , God knows it needs a good polish and waxing .
