Has anyone out there have any information on the 55-57 Chevy trucks that came with the Hydromatic transmissions? I have this 1956 with the factory 265ci V8 and a Hydromatic automatic tranmission but can't seem to get any info as to how many were made? most everyone I have talked with says chevy never put automatics in these trucks? however the emblems on the fenders read "Chevrolet Hydromatic 3100" any information will be greatly appreciated.
Hydro trans Chev used Hydro trans 1954-1959. Not to popular but they were out there. GMC used more of them. Don't know how many were made. Hope this helps. Gene
Regular Production Option (RPO) 314, Automatic Transmission (the old Dual-Range Hydra-Matic), was available on both six and V8 equipped 54 thru 59 Chevrolet trucks. GMC started using them in 52. My daily driver 57 GMC has one too.
Here's a link to some good info on auto-trannies. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/trans/index.htm BTW, that's a nice looking horsehorse of a truck you got there! Ken
Hydromatic Drive Hi NOOB ! Back in the day , GM made millions of these fine rigs , most went directly into commercial service and were scrapped when about 10 years old from niggly little things we'd fix these days but that's how it was back then . Many folks somply don't know squat , don't worry about that , the guys here collectively know everything and have never been stumped by my silly questions no matter how mundane . Didja know that 50's Lincolns used Hydromatic trannies too ? . then the factory burned down so that stopped that .
