hi everyone! before i explain my problem i'll let you know that the truck origanaly had a diesel with a manual tran. it now has a 350 with the trucks origanal trans. my problem is that i keep blowing the fuse for the gauges, also i've noticed the batt.gauge needle moves toward the 18 usually it's sitting in the middle of the gauge, also the electic choke seems to not be working it is new but has been sitting for some time maybe around 10 years don't know if that has anything to do with it.so if anyone has any input on my problem it would be very appreciated, thank you very much.
Well if the truck has been sitting for that long I would check all the ground's, Then I would check all the + side's of the wire to make sure there is no bare wires shorting out on other wires or body. Since the motor was changed. After that I would check the back of the cluster for shorts & burnt out peannuts bulbs. That to start with.
You might want to check for the original wiring that ran to the glow plug for the diesel. I believe those trucks had a light on the dash to indicate the glow plugs are warm then shut off before starting. The electric choke just needs to be ran of a key hot from the fuse block. If the original wiring harness if giving you fits then eleminate as much extra for the original diesel as possible. The extra battery set up the diesels came with will run through the gauges then to the batteries you might have a grounding issue for the second battery.
thanks for your replies guys,i'll check out all the wiring for any cracks and then clean all ground connections, for the gauge cluster i may have to change that.thanks again guys you've been all helpful.
