ok, so i finally got my seat belts, and i got a good price for them, but i definately got what i paid for- i had a ton of hassle with the guys i bought them from, but oh well. i have them now. so here are some pics- and questions to follow... so i'm not sure if you can see it clearly, but it looks like there's not enough room between where it bolts (or clips) to the floor and where you adjust it. i'm afraid the adjustment part will be behind the cusion. may have to have it re-belted, eh? there's some rust inside where the belt folds over and is sewn also, kinda hard to get to unless it's cut and re-belted. i guess i answered my own question there. also- do any of you guys know what sort of attachment is needed to get these things hooked into the cab? maybe some sort of eye bolt? just wondering... thanks guys!! oh, also- does anybody know about the leather that's supposed to go under these? obviously, i don't have any on mine here. can you just drill out the rivets and put some new ones in there with the new leather? is that difficult? i've never done that sort of thing. how big is the leather piece? is it the same width as the belt? and does it extend all the way across to the other part of the buckle? thanks again. maybe i should've done three separate posts. sorry!! jon
Bomber Belts Wow , you finally got them , good on ya ! . I'd have them re-webbed ASAP and yes , if the trimmer won't add the missing leather flap , you can do it @ home , no biggie and you can even use cheapo Pop Rivets . Go to your local race track and ask someone in the pits or look in the program as the local seat belt guy will usually advertise in there and he'll be sure to sew it correctly ~ this is -very- important in the unlikely case you ever ' stress test ' them
awesome, yeah, i'll look someone up. i'll have to ask them to add 5 or 6 inches to the attachment side so that it'll go behind the seat and you can still adjust the tightness of the belt. any ideas on how to attach it to the cab? jon
Seat Belt Attachment ?? you don't have the pictured eyebolts ? . those should be fine , remember to gusset it with BIG oversized washers and only bolt it to the cab floor , never to the frame ! Measure thrice before drilling once , it's really easy to put your mounting hole directly over the frame where you cannot get a nut on it...
Because ; In a -major- collision the cab will usually flex far from the frame if not come off altogether ~ if the seat belt is attched to the frame , it will pull taut and cut the occupant in half . If the occupant is SWMBO or your child , your life will begin to suck worse than you can possibly imagine . DO NOT EVER attach any restraint through a floor to a frame ! . I am sorry to be so graphic but this is a bad thing , I've seen it 1st. hand .
While your at the race track ask the seat belt guy for the mounting eyes, they are just an eye with a thread on it, all race cars have them normally. ________ Gm Family 1 Engine
