New with engines

Take the body off the frame. This will give you easy acess to the drive train. If you want to lower it or redo brakes suspension ect. start here. After the frame is complete work on the cab and other body parts. Get it painted remove rust ect. Put cab on the frame. This is the point where you will want to get the motor and tranny put in. After the motor/tranny is in install front clip. Install wiring and truck bed.

I agree, If you want to do it right and you don't need it as a daily driver then frame-off restoration is the best, and gives the most accessability to all components. Check out LMCtruck.com and Classicparts.com sites too.

There are several books out there on the subject to help you along with your project.
Do your research
evaluate the trucks condtion
decide what you truck needs and what you want it to be
set a buget for your project
And have at it!
