Just thought I'd drop a line and say hi. I finally got my first REAL truck. It's a 66 fleetside 2WD. I can't tell if it's a 230 or a 250 engine, but it's pretty worn out (rings are going). It has an old 4spd that works really good, but there is a lot of slop in the shifter. The exhaust empties right in front of the rear axle (smoke come up though the holes in the bed).

Plans include: rewire (with turn signals), an engine swap to a 350 (yes I read the posts on the mounts), tranny rebuild (yes I plan on keeping the 4spd), Disk brakes, Wheels that match (picky me), new wood for the bed (I'll have to do plywood temporarally) and a reciver hitch.

I'm sure the A/C is just for looks. I haven't tried to get it working yet.

Nice truck. Watch out for that rear bumper. It looks like it weights a 1/2 ton.

Supposedly, it’s already claimed one import car with the previous owner.

So I took the tuck and the kids fishing today. After about 100 miles round trip I burned about 10 gals of gass an about 3qts. of oil. Something wierd happened too, going down hill, brakes applied, it sounded like the engine was falling out!! Lots of banging and shaking. I think the tranny was hitting the crossmember.

The tranny mounts were a pain! nothing wanted to line up. I got them in, hopefully they'll stay there.

I'm looking for an air unit like that for my truck. Seriously!
    Welcome aboard!
These old trucks are tough. They can be anything from beaters to beautys. Mine will be something in the middle.
