Thanks, the colors are from Toyota/Lexus the silver is actually desert sand micah (4Q2) and a jade green (6Q7). The truck was originally my dads when he was a kid and as I grew up I was the tool getter, transmission holder etc... I have been a part of pretty much everything that's gone on until the last rebuild/restore which was pretty much him due to difference in living locations. My wife and I drove it from Cody, WY back to Athens, GA just recently and it was a great trip.

'63 283, 327 heads and a mild cam. Saginaw 4 speed, 59 Bonneville rear end with 3.08 gearing. It used to have a 4.11 rear end but that had to go. Still has leaf springs front and rear and besides rewiring the truck this winter I am looking at new front ends but not sure how far to go with it. It really needs disc brakes in front so that is next. The engine has less than 6,000 miles on it including the 2,000 put on it this summer.

I will add more pictures in the next few days but not sure what you would want to see. Thanks for the compliments and again, this site has already been invaluable!

    Welcome b !

That's a sharp looking truck you have there , your dad built it the old way .

You can add a swaybar to the front end and some tube shocks (gasof course) then a bolt up disc brake conversion and that'll make it a better driver and no need to swap out the front suspension .

    Ok, thanks.

The bolt up disc conversions, are those pretty good? As for the master cylinder obviously I would need a new one but would I have to run all new brake lines front and rear?

    Manual Disc Brake Upgrade

Actually you don't need a new master cylinder unless the old one is leaky or dead (few understand this)

For safety's sake , upgrading to a dual circuit master is good , use the drum brake on off a '70 Mustang or Nova ...

Few here are old enough to remember factory disc brake equipped cars with single circuit masters and no fancy schmancy residual check valves , proportioning valves and so on , they all stopped just fine thankyouverymuch
, if you want to drop big $ into it , go for it but it isn't necessary .

the steel pipes will work but if they're rusty , it's best to replace them , save $ and go to the source where all the vendors go: inlinetube , they're on The Internet .

New flex hoses (all three !) of course , you don't want to die do you ?

So if I use a bolt in disc conversion on the front and replace my master with a dual circuit master I don't really need a proportioning valve? As far as the '70 Nova brake info did you mean I could use a dual master from that year specific for front disc and rear drum or I should use the drum brakes from that year?

    Thanks for your help.

    Correct ;

If you go with disc brakes , it's a better idea to use a disc brake master cylinder .

Ask for the manual brake one unless you're adding a vacuum power booster .

You'll have to bend up a couple steel lines to hook it up , use a bit of steel fence post so you don't kink it .
