What diameter (thread side) have the nipple inside the waterpump from a 235cui? It's 1/2 or 5/8 inc? Volker
Reipe Nipple If I remember correctly all hose and pipe sizes are measured by the inside diameter. I believe heater hose size is 1/2 inch. Hope this helps. John
Size Volker I had a valve threaded in at that point and the valve was 1/2" ....but this was threaded into a bushing that was larger by only the width of the thread on the bushing Since it is tapered thread it would be measured in the USA by its inside diameter and be considered 1/2" and the thread on the valve would be 3/8"
removing the bushing When i went to remove the bushing BTW there was no surface to wrench on. My first thought was to usea chisel and cut down and crush the bushing in but it did not work. I ended up taking the neck off and bringing it in to work for my welder friend to look at it , he made several tack weld and built them up until he could get a bolt welded to them in the middle and then let it cool. After it colled it spun out almost frictionless, the welding had made it shrink which broke up any corrosion holding it in place and reducing the diameter
it's 1/2 i screwed in a 1/2 nipple with 5/8 hose output and used a hose with 5/8. The reason for my question was i installed an electronic device (magnet switch) to get a possibility to switch off the heater without the original shutoff valve. Now i can install an electronic temp unit to control the heater temp from the dashboard. function: have an potentiometer to choose my temp in the cab and the electronic device makes the heater hose on if it's colder than the wished temp and shutoff if it's too warm. A simple way for me because i don't have the original heater. (it was a texas truck without heater) Now have 2 controls under the dash, blower and temp and works fine
heat valve I made the mistake a few weeks past to fiddle with that valve and could not shut the water off to my heater core and then it began to leak. So I bought a valve from Napa to put in line and a nipple form our host to hook up the 5/8 dia heater hose. I can now shut the water flow off completely or vary it via a control inside, that is once I hook up the control cable, I dont need the heat here this time of year and I dont do much driving in the truck when it gets cold so I am not sure I will ever hook it up .. lazy me.
