OK 1953 chev pu, engine has no serial number stamp, and no casting numbers.. crazy is this a replacement engine with no markings.. do replacement engines have no NONE markings or casting numbers?
They're there , right behind the starter , dismount it (two bolts) and have a look . Are you saying the serial number pad is blank ? . very unusual .
yep serial number is not there, totally blank. I have two other engines that are not in rig.. their casting numbers are between the dist and fuel pump.. but no casting numbers in this location on engine in truck.. or anywere else to be seen. engine is clean so they are not covered in gunk, still i wire brushed every possible loaction and nothing. if they are in different location ie behind stater I wouldn't be able to see them.. funny they would be in different location.. anyway.. I know its a 216.. but probably not the stock 216, as has blank serial number.. I read somewhere replacement engines had no serial numbers.
Many new replacement 216's had no serial #'s as that was the # used to register the vehicle so you'd re-stamp it with the old # . 235's etc. almost always had serial #'s on new replacement engines from GM . The # casted in that's behind the starter , will be the production date number you'll be able to see it partially even with the starter in situ . You prolly have a good replacement engine there , might be worth testing and if it runs well , stamp your original serial number into the pad .
