Hi all, Joe here from the wet side of WA(NO not Seattle...farther west). Been messing with fullsizeJeeps the past 30 years and sorta going back to my roots it seems. Thinking of buying a neighbors pretty much stock 47 truck(late 47 series). I've owned a couple 50 chev pickups back in the 70's and still have an original factory Chev 48-51 shop manual(GM printed 1950). First noob question is: will this manual work for a late 47 truck? I'm no real mechanic but a firm believer in if you're not brain dead, can read, have decent correct tools and the factory shop manual all is possible. Much difference between the late 47's and the later 48-early55's If anyone cares the plan is to restore it but I'm not adverse to maybe upgrading if needed to a later pressure oil sys 235 motor.(dropped a 57/235 into one of the previous 50's trucks I had and also a 235 into a 1940 1.5 ton Chev. Was a really good swap for my needs in both trucks. PS I 'like 235's and most other tractor motors For the sake of being somewhat brief I'll save any further questions for another thread. Thanks,
Welcome to CPT usgser. Definitely buy the 47. As far as the manual...what you have now is probably going to help you out quite a bit, the rest you can pick up from the experienced guys on this forum (not me).
Welcome - that manual and the Factory Assembly Manual are going to be your best reading, the rest you'll find help with here.
'Nother '47.2 Cool ! . You have the right idea , run the 216 until it dies and then slap in the cheap or free 235/261 you found . Chevy truckers read the manuals , GMC owners can only look at the pictures and wonder what all the fuss is about (lotta rivalry here) We need PICTURES ! .
