Neil "Brit 50" stated that one hasn't experienced rust till the vehicle come from a place surrounded by salt air/rain/water. The guys from the coast or Hawaii can probably add to this. We took in a 55 Nomad that has rust in IMPOSSIBLE places. Everywhere there is any gasket/seal/angle to hold moisture there is rust through, even on the very top. People in these areas have got to be saluted for bringing them back and keeping up with them. Just to think, in the dry part of Texas anything past a few pin holes in the cab corners causes wringing of the hands. We have done some pretty bad ones from the rust belt but they were not rusted more than from the lower third down. Oh well, what's life without a challenge?

    Then again...

Evan~ don't read too much into what brit has to say. Tears contain salt also. You know that a lot of his rust comes from the hours he's spent slumped over his fender shedding tears that his truck is just a Chevy...

    He'll be all better ~

    someday...:D

    Rust!

Evan, you just reminded me of an incident, when i had a bodyshop many moons ago, guy came in in an old convertible Alfa spyder, pulled up outside and i noticed he climbed out the passenger door (interior handle broke methinks) came in and said it had just failed the Gov inspection, bought it few days ago for lots of money and how many readies to restore the bodywork, i did the usual walk round and it was fairly straight then grabbed the drivers door handle and opened it as he said "don....." BANG!

No, the door didnt fall off........... the car broke in half on the drivers side:eek: sills hitting the floor!!!! had to jack it up in the middle to shut the door again just to hold it together! told the guy if he drives this away he's a real dumb a**e, but he did! never saw him again, prob died in it when he hit the brakes hard or something!!

As for you Zig.......outside......lets sort this out once an for all:p

    The dreaded metal worm

Many years ago Fiat used to import there cars into Poole Harbour (England) on a boat and they stored them on a strip of reclaimed land between my factory and the harbour. It was on the waters edge I mean on the edge, high tide was 2 ft lower than the land. Some off the cars were sitting in salt water halfway up there doors, any car that was there more than a couple days ended up with a white film of salt on them you could see the spay and waves breaking over them!!! They used the site for about 2 years, believe they crushed a lot off them in the end. At that time Fiat had a very bad name over here for rust I wonder why ?
