Been busy the last week or so trying to get out some of the wagons I have around that needed fixing. Here are 2 that I had been busy on. The "Streak O Lite" I want to do more to but the "Viking" I think I'll just leave as it is now and sell it.
Streak o lite! I am certainly no expert on antique wagons, but wasn't the Streak O Lite made by Radio back in the '30's, pre Radio Flyer days? That is one cool ride! That bad boy needs to be restored back to original, headlights and all!
Ken, That is indeed the Streak O Lite and I was today checking on a place to have it bead blasted. I just had to remake a lot of the under carriage for it. T parts were just trash had to get a new axle for the front the rear axle was busted and rewelded I cleaned it up some and left it. The handle was twisted really badly, I have most of the twist out but looking at the photo I see it has still more to get out. Finding the headlights and what the dash really looked like has gotten me nowhere. It has some rust in the back of the bed that I have to address very soon. Finding the artillery rims and tires in good shape is going to sometime else also. The decal for the sides is being made now so that will be coming next year sometime. I can say I wasn?t it to look as close to original as possible. I know Radio Flyer has no clue as to what it should have from some of the conversions I have had trying to get parts for this wagon and some others.
Thanks Spurgeon, That is the guys for the sides but not the dash or front decal. Not sure is I'll ever get a good shot of what should be there.
Do a google search on "streak o lite" Results should include the following: http://www.vintagevending.com/streak-o-lite-wagon
Spurgeon, Thanks for the link, for the time being I'm not going to get anything for it until next year. Have to get it ready to be bead blasted and then get all the dentsout of the sides and rolled edge. A lot of the people on the links to this wagon I have sent emails to, some have replied back while others not. I was going to go to the swap meet today but had to get some of those honey-do's finished inside the house. Still did not get to the Fish tank that has no fish anymore out of the house, maybe next weekend.
Cool Wagons !! Those are SO cool ! . When I were a wee lad I wanted a waon , any wagon , so badly I could taste it but never was allowed to have one , not even a rusty old beat up one found in the trash . Mow I see these oldies saved and rebuilt , many are seriously customized beyond belief , old guys having way too much fun with them .
They are fun to tinker with when one has nothing else to do. I started using them after I hurt my back so I did not have to carry things. You need one to haul stuff around in Nate just to save the back some.
Junkyard Hauler Oh Charles ~ I have my very own shopping cart for that ~ it carries my two 5 gallon buckets of tools , my cane , my " Kentucky Creeper " and of course , all the various parts I have to drag out to the parking lot..... I see those guys with wagons in Pick-A-Part , they look cute but not (IMO) ready for real work . It's raining in Los Angeles , this means the locals have all gone bonkers and the freeways are jammed with wrecks since about 01:00 .
210 Madness East bound ? that was several Semis and three cars tangled in the tunnel , one car got stuck underneath the flipped Semi and killed the driver . West bound ? a different truck spun out and hit the center divider , stupid driver wasn't wearing his seat belt and was ejected and landed on the trolly tracks in the median along with various truck parts , he died too . My Son was there and said the truck's windshield was intact so he must have ejected through the door..... A tough day all 'round . I got stuck o the late morning (11:30AM ~ Noon) East Bound traffic jam . At least I got a new windshield in both my old Mercedes and my truck ~ the bad news is : gaping rust holes in the truck's pinchweld were revealed when the old glass was removed . C'est La Vie ~ that cab's way beyond repair anyway and I have just found a private '76 ~ '72 truck junkyard , the owner says I can come and look at is various cabs . Maybe I'll find the upgrade , 2-1/2" brakes fitted to Suburbans and special ordered 1/2 & 3/4 T. rigs . I hope all here know to SLOW THE HELL DOWN when the pavement's wet ! the first day of rain , all the old oil and rubber dust float up out of the pavement and it's like greased glass ~ that's why so many fender benders the first rain . I had some fun @ 0-Dark:30 testing the adhesion of my fancy - schmancy Radial LT tires , they're pretty good but not overly had to break loose . .
