    Ok,
The 283 in my 66 has this adapter (was leaking) and I also snapped a pic of what the block looks like.

There is a hole in the block picture about 1 o clock. And the plastic black piece is pretty hard, should it be rubber and more plyable?

I was using a K&N oil filter which seems to seal well against the face of the adapter.

Am I missing some other piece?

If I were to replace this assembly, what should I use?

So Rich, the part in the pic you posted is all i need? No bypass valve or anything like that?

There is only the small diameter seal that I hold in my hand no outer larger seal? The thing was full of orange permatex rtv around the outter edge, a total mess that was leaking oil.

I thought to myself, all this rtv and yet, still not enough...:D

I belive tou use the standard oil filter for a small block chevy, I`m sure the instructions will denote which one to use, the SM Blk chevy uses a perimeter seal at the edge it comes with all oil filters for chevy...
