Just bought a real nice 62 fleetside, love the truck but would like to convert to a spin-on oil filter and also move the gas tank from behind the seat. Would appreciate any advice on these 2 subjects.

Mike, Mustang gas tanks (65-68) are constructed such that they lend themselves well to under bed applications. You might want to check one out to see if it will work in your Fleetside. Also, I seem to remember a spin-on oil filter adapter made by Mr Gasket that should resolve your oil filter problem. Check with most any Automotive Performance Shop and they should have it.

Yes, I would defently get rid of that cartridge style oil filter. The housing is prone to leak around where the center bolt goes through it and they can be such a pain to change sometimes. Not soo bad to get them off, but putting them back on is what can be difficult. The filters are getting harder to find as well and when you do find them it seems that they are always soo much higher as well. I would check with Mr. Gasket and if you have a NAPA parts store in town, I would check with them as well. NAPA seems to have a better availablity to hard to find parts for our era of pickups over the others. That has been my find through the years. I don't think you will have a problem finding one for your pickup. They are out there, just finding a distributor that can get you one will be the hardest part, and even that is not that hard. Just out of curiousity, it is a 6 or a 8 cylinder engine?

    Good luck with the restoration...

Mike, if you are one of those guys who just can't stand the thought of having anything Ford made on your Chevy, another gas tank source might be a Blazer. I've heard that they also will work in the bed of some Chevy trucks.
