What oil are you running in your 216 ??

I could only find 30 weight this week so In it went but it seems a bit light.. And now the rear main seal is leaking a little bit..

I am thinking I'll have to find some 40 weight.

    Oil

    SAE 10 W 40 or SAE 20 W 50 half synthetic oil will do.

    Wow

Usually oil threads explode into flame wars instantly .

Here's the deal : any modern Motor Oil is WAYYYYY better than the paraffin based crap is was designed to run on when new so as long as it's not too thick and you HOT CHANGE it fairly often you have a wide latitude of choices .

I find the thinner oils get up out of the pan and lubricating faster , 90 % of most engine wear occurs upon initial startup so I use and prefer them but as you mentioned : they both weep and seep more than do 30W + oils .

The weeps and seeps can be greatly reduced by replacing all the various external gaskets and using Permatex' " The Right Stuff " on both sides of each and every gasket .

The rear main seal is going to drip no matter what and until you replace those worn out piston rings and do the proper 60 second breakin , the normal blowby is going to push out more as soon as it goes above idle .

FWIW , synthetics are the very best and will stop the wear cycle in your engine dead, wherever it is ~ I have several clapped out engines I keep in sharp tune and full of clean fully synthetic 10W~whatever oils that I never plan to overhaul , they seep & burn oil , clatter and smoke but they also run *perfectly* so I tend to them and don't waste time worrying .
