Any one have any hints or tips on changing out my oil pan gaskets on a 235 engine before I start it? I am assuming it is a standard change out. Any recommendations on sealant?

    Oil Pan Service Notes

I prefer Victor brand gaskets over Fel Pro .

NAPA sells Victor but you can get them @ other FLAPS cheaper under the Victor brand .

Sorry , my catalog is locked up in the shop.....

I don't like sealant , if the end pieces are slipping & giving you difficulties , use some GaskaCinch glue to tack them in place . if the counterman doesn't know what Gaskacinch is , find the old timer and ask him for " skirts up b*tch " he'll laugh and get you the can, you'll see why I call it that by the label .

Wire brush both surfaces 100 % ~ you might not feel those tiny black bits on the pan's lip but they'll leak badly just the same . putty knife is good too .

Look along the edge of the pan , the holes might be slightly pooched up from previous over tightening , use a ball pien hammer to dress them back down again , use the _BALL_ end of the hammer and support the lip on some long wood so you don't warp it from hammering .

hold the pan up with one hand whilst you insert a screw at each corner a few turns , then install all the rest of the screws loosly and finally tighten them down working from the center sides to the ends....

You're supposed to use " Stove Bolts " to attach the oil pan , those are the slotted screws with wide , oversized heads and yes , they're still being made right here in the good old U.S. of A. ~ I get mine from the valve chest of junker 235's I find buried in the greasy mud in older junkyards ~ the clean up nice .

I'm sure I prolly forgot a step so chime in guys ! :D

(MMMM frsh , jicy & hot 'Burgers off the grille.....)
