As you probs know im from sunny England across the pond. Well parts for carter W1 carbys aint found in our local junk yards and new parts are a pain to find and ship over. So when i rebuilt my pair of carters and i found the acc pump rods worn badly i was left kerfuddled. I put the rebuilt carbys on the motor and left the rods for another day. Well today that day came, and i was determined to sort them out, i tried to put a dab of weld on the worn ends so i could re shape them, that failed. So i sat down with a cuppa and thought hard, then noticed the bucket i was sitting on had a wire handle ($2 special from hardware shop) lo an behold, same dia as the rod, exactly the same! hell, i thought, go for it, so with true ol skool backyard engineering i went at it.

Im chuffed to say they both fitted perfect, and work perfect too. Shows that lo buck can sometimes be the best way to go!

If you want to trade in that scruffy old umbrella that's mildewed from being put up wet so many times for a super sized tube of sun block cream I sure could use an original thinker type dropping by the shop on a regular basis. I'm impressed.

    Respect

Thanks for the comment, coming from someone i respect for their work its much appreciated. I have been thinking for a while about upping roots an living somewhere else so be careful what you wish for:D

Funny how you can work hard on a big project and get little out of it but a little item can give you so much satisfaction when it works. Im also amazed that some days everything goes right, like those rods, no mistakes, just careful work and it all came together. Today however! nothing was easy, accelerator linkage! 2 carters, 1 fenton intake, 2 fenton headers, a 56' 235 in a 50 truck and someone who just threw all the bits from disassembling the truck in random boxes! (me:eek:) It was never gonna be easy!!!!:(

    Good Job Neil !

No wonder you like old Chevies so much ~ you clearly understand how they were meant to be maintained...

I'd take Evan up on the job offer PDQ before he changes his mind...
