Ok guys, its 3 in the morning and I just got home, and I'm thinking while winding down. Lately I have had the "new truck" fever. I picked a local want ad paper and starting thumbing through for '97 to '99 3/4 ton trucks. I was shocked at the prices. I did see one '98 c-2500 with 155,000 miles for $7950. I checked the price on a new one and it was close to $23,000 for a plain-jane 3/4 ton. I need the 3/4 ton for towing antique tractors. I guess I've decided to keep driving the '63 c-20, (that my parents bought new for $2000) and keep fixing a few things. It always gets me there, maybe not the fastest in the world, but it gets me there. I can spend a few bucks on repairs and avoid that $300-$500 truck payment. Just thinking out loud, anyone else got any comments.
A new truck is nice but it will lose value, an old truck will gain value and except for the size of the cab it can have all of the comforts and capabilities of a new truck. Besides older truck are cooler! Put fourteen new trucks in a line going down the road and one old truck in that line...it will be the old truck that catches your eye. Just my opinion Butch
Just think of it this way . If you spend the money on your truck that you would spend on new truck payments, how cool your truck will be after a year of paying. When your truck is done it's one of a kind. Anybody can buy a new truck that looks like every body elses. Fixed up older vehicles just have class like no other. It's like if you hear somebody that sees a neat older vehicle and they say thats cool, way cool! But if they see a Guy driving a new Corvette or a NSX ir Viper they say, "Look at that jerk"! I think it's because they know that can't have that tuff High dollar car but to them they feel it's possible for them to be able to fix up a older vehicle. Probably because you can do it slow as you get the money as where the Corvette guy has more money up front or great credit. Sales tax and insurance are also cheaper on the fixed up older vehicle. In 10 years the older truck will probably be worth the same or more money than the new one is. A ten year old Corvette or what ever drops allot in price, at least until it gets to be 25 years old then they might start to build in value. Now a new truck drops in value in ten years, and will make you sick when you think how much you payed compared to what it will be worth that's sad.
