I have been searching the forums and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. What is the best way to remove the front leaf spring eye bolt. I have seen all the threads about removing the bushings bit I'm still not sure if the eye bolt is threaded all the way through or if it is just threaded on the end. I have removed the nut but can't get the bolt itself to budge. Thanks for your help in advance... Brian ________ no2 vaporizers
If you have never changed the old ones out then they probably have a flattened sided to them from the years of wear. on mine, after I removed the nut, I just continued to wrench out the bolt as if it was threaded.
eye bolt the bolt is threaded all the way through the bushing what i did was i had a buddy make a pusher to push the bushing out I unscrewed the bolt halfway out then pushed on the bolt with a pusher i made. hope that helps.See pics the biggest eye is where the spring goes and the other pushes on the bolt side if that makes sense.
Thanks I figured as much, I can't get the bolt to move/spin anything. The nut came off fine so... The funny thing is my Dad said he remembers getting to this part when he was a kid and he just put it back together. ________ Ducati 125 Turismo
I had a few problems replacing mine - but basically once you take the nut off, there's nothing other than time, wear, old grease and road grime and yet more wear holding it on. The bolt is not threaded into the bushing, but over time it may have worn its way into the bushing - making its own thread as it were.. The bolt is threaded at one end, you should have a grease fitting (zerk) and a washer at the nut end take those three off. Press the bolt out, using something like the tool Rons50 describes. You can buy simple ones at any auto / tool store. Spray on some of that release stuff as well if you like. Finally you have to push the bushing itself out. For this I had to find a bolt with a head that was bigger than the bushing and smaller than the hole thru the spring. Put it into the bushing and press it out taking the bushing with it. If you look at Classicparts item number 74-057 you'll see what the whole thing looks like new. When I got them out mine looked like they'd had a major amount of wear - a real hard life. The new ones won't revolutionize your ride, but they'll be one significant step.
If I remember right, the spring perch is threaded on one side. So you have to take the nut and washer off, and then unthread the bolt. Pobably have to use a pry bar to get past the worn spot(between the pech and spring) then it should come out. Chris
Thanks for the reminder Chris, you're right the spring perch had a thread. So it does have to unscrew a way before being pushed out.
Got it... now that I'm looking at the springs on the ground the bolt has worn all the way through the bushing and into the spring itself. I really can't afford buying new springs so is there any other options? I have attached a picture of the spring so let me know what you all think please. Brian ________ vaporizer reviews
Worn Those springs are pretty much finished im afraid, way i see it you have two options, bang in some new bushes and see how it goes or do what i did and found a small shop that makes and repairs leaf springs and ask them to make the only leaf thats damaged, they are easy to disassemble, just buy a new bolt that goes through them all in the middle. jus my 2 cents
