OVER HEATING WAY TOO MUCH

I HAVE A 66 C-10 AND I JUST PUT A NEW 327 IN IT AND KEEPED THE STOCK RADIATOR IN IT. I CAN DRIVE IT AND THE TEMP STAYS BELOW 210, BUT IF I STOP AND SHUTDOWN AND THEN TRY TO RESTART I HAVE TO WAIT TILL IT GETS BELOW 210. ANYWAYS OF HELPING THIS I HAVE THOUGHT OF A ELEC. FAN BUT WILL THAT STOP THE OVER HEATING.

Start with the least expensive parts and work your way up.

1) Thermostat
2) Hoses ( upper & lower )
3) fan shroud ( if you don't have one ? Get one. It's good for 10 degrees difference)
4) water pump

Start by removing the heater core as a possibility by removing both heater hoses and bypassing the core with a short length of heater hose.

THEN run through 1 through 4 above.

FYI: 210 is border line TOO HOT. 195 to 200 is in the wheelhouse for a smallblock.

If you are running headers make sure that the starter has a heat shield.

Hey John66, sound's like you might have a bad Starter! Even if it's NEW, I have had that happen & after going thru all the stuff they have mentioned, it came down to my Starter...even if it's a NEW one! As for an Electric Fan, they are GREAT! I have one in ALL my Ride's! I even had a 62' Caddy M&M 3way Hearse...(6800 lbs.) & put a 94' Chevy Truck "VORTEC" 350 Motor (the EFI was replaced with a Stock Aluminum Manifold & a 650 cfm Edlebrock Carb, it's the way I got the Motor) & all I had was an ELECTRIC FAN (Motor was too close to the Radiator to run a Stock Fan) & I live in "HELL"...well, close to it...LOL...I live in Fort Mojave, AZ., where it get's 120 degree's on an average! I have never had a Over Heating Problem!!! So, I would get yourself an Electric fan & see the defference..."IT CAN'T HURT" Hope this help's you out..."SKULL" :7
