I was pretty lucky in that the local auto parts store i frequented as a teenager had the old Dupont paint books from that period. My buddies there allowed me to borrow the books and cross reference the paint to the new numbers. Took a while, but it's doable.
Hi , Justin ! WELCOME to our little group ! . Bob Adler's site has useful paint info . DuPont Registry used to keep an extensive database on old colors and modern mixes to duplicate same , often it'll take a goodly bit of digging to find the info you need so don't give up , as it says in the I Ching : persaverance furthers Remember too : your computer's monitor might not reproduce the color you're looking for quite correctly . Firewall is usually the best place to discern the original paint color . My '49 was Alaska Yellow , an interesting color , better if broken up with black or brown fenders tho' .
PPG color library has old paint codes and formulas. Any store that handles their Ditzler brand can call them or maybe one (with computer skill) could access their library. The store I use has a "Vintage Car Supplement" from PPG that goes back to the late 1920's.
OT : Mercedes Paint Codes O.K. , you guys seem to find this stuff so easily , how about a link to see the paint codes & colors for a 1980 Mercedes ? it looks Burgundy to me .... TIA ,
THANX that's for older cars than my 1980 (W123) and doesn't appear to have this very popular color...
I also found some chips on autocolorlibrary with a color called Inca Red Poly (1980 Mercedes). Kind of a brownish dark red. I'll get you a link to it later.
