I am restoring a 1950 chevy 3100. I was woundering the engine color and compartment seeing I have the engine out this year. I was know the engine should be gray, but was wondering how much of it. Is the start, generator, distributor all flat black. I could use so help here. Is the compartment supposed to be the same color as the body or just black? Any help would be great.

I'm new to the forum and wondering if you found an answer to your question about painting the engine compartment. I have the same question about my 48 3100. It appears the fire wall may have been body color. Also, I'm wondering what the original paint scheme for the dash was--ie were the recesses in the chrome parts painted to match the interior or not? Any help would be appreciated. :)

This is a little late in coming but I was browsing through some of the older posts and cam across you query pertaining to dash paint schemes. I have a 49 6400 series truck and had the same question as I started redoing the dask of my truck. The info I got about the scheme came from www.oldchevytrucks.com (Jim #####) in an article in the technical section titled "Advance design dash". I was also told that the grill and glove box were "stainless" and not chrome.
Even though this is late, hope it is of some help.

    Jim:)

Like the other post I was hesitant about replying also but hey its started . The paints under the hood are specific colors (Restore) and the judges can spot any deviation. Its been awhile since I paid any attention to them but it seems like Hemmings and Eastwood use to offer the correct paints.
