I want to add a passenger side mirror, but I am reluctant when it comes to drilling holes in the door. I removed the inside panel and can see where it appears to be three holes in the door bracket. They look to be aligned correctly. Has anyone done this, or familiar with the install. I can send pictures the next time I remove the panel.
Vigilante, those are the Correct location holes for mounting a STOCK mirror bracket. I've drilled both my 58 & 59 trucks because they didn't have RH Mirror's on them and i wanted the stock mirror's on that side. at first i ended up just using a lock washer and nut to fasten them,BUT i ended up bolting up the Bracket on the door and then welded Square nuts on the inside of the door at the three locations like they were Originally. Piece of CAKE!!!! Allen But i should add if you have the truck already painted take your time,I would mask the outside area off and start out with a smaller drill bit and work up to the correct size and also they have a Rubber Gasket that sandwiches in between the bracket and the door ( obviously you are not going to want to weld them up with a painted truck but you can use a washer and nut them from the inside with no problem!) my truck's are still in primer and thats why i ended up welding the nuts in place. Good Luck with your Truck!
Thanks so much for your input. I will attempt next week when weather clears. I will send pics of project too. Thx again!
nut rivets I too had to install mirrors, but on both of my doors. I used nut rivets in the door because you install them from the outside. If you are not familiar with them you can see them and the install tool at harbor freight if one is near you. Since getting them I have used them several times, handy little critters to have around. Hope this information is useful to you. Gerald in Florida
