After 15 years.. I finally got around to pulling out the motor and treating the truck to the lil TLC. The body is a wreck as the truck was used for camping, fishing, daily driving, and weekly Home-Depot trips.. I started by just re-doing the head, but soon decided to pull the whole thing out and get it machined. That led to: - rebuild radiator - replace old 4brl Holley with new 2brl Weber - new fuel lines - new gas tank. Since I had to pull the seats out: - sand the floor, treated the surface rust, painted floor & back lower cab - new pad & carpeting Needless to say I went well beyond what I originally thought I would do Here are a few pics of the engine now that its back in. Keep in mind, the goal is not to have a show truck - its meant to stay as a daily work truck. But I want it to run nicely.. Items pending: - need to figure out how to get the cable throttle to work with the Weber rod linkage - still need to do the initial valve adjustment
Up Fixin' Doesn't lok like a wreck to me..... Perchance was this a Munincipal truck when it was new ?.
I dont think it was a municial truck. Its a 1/2 ton with what appears to be the original bed on it - no decals or registration that would indicate it was ever anything more than the average 54 pick up. I got the carb linkage to work.. and aim to have the valve adjustment completed sometime next week. I'll make sure to post more pictures of the entire truck at that time.
Great Job!!! Looks like you have a mighty fine project coming along there! A two barrel, huh? I like the way the firewall is painted the two different colors. That's exactly where I split my colors. I'm happy for you! Keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing more photos!
A Throttle a very nice addition on cold mornings. You may want to fab a bracket. Classic sells the brass barrel to run the cable end through to keep from interfearing with the foot feed fo less than a buck.
Almost there.. carb adjustment, tighten the head after initial break-in, and valve adjustment and I should be done. Oh yeah.. and now it appears as though I have a heater core leak.. All work in progress..
Heater Core leaks Make sure you don't have more than 4 # pressure on the cap (I like open caps) then find a tube of " Aluma Seal " - it's hands down the best there is , new cars come with it from the factory these days .
