Poly fuel tank

Glad to see chevy duty starting this forum and thanks for the email. I have a 1961 chevy truck and am wanting to move the fuel tank to the rear of the truck just behind the axle between the frame. I'm looking for a poly tank that just drops in, I will be using it with the original 235 engine so I won't need one with the fuel pump installed. Does anyone know a good supplier? Chevy Duty sells a poly tank that will fit right behind the rear axle.It's a 21 gallon tank thats actually a Blazer replacment.You will need two straps,the tank,and a V-8 Blazer sending unit for the conversion.You will have to come up with a way to fill it,as Blazer's had a filler neck on the left side.Some people have grafted later model gas doors into the bedsides.And some just have the filler come up thru the floor.

Thanks for the information on the tank I'll look at it, can chevy duty send me the dimensions and specs, so I can see how it's going to look? Especially where that filler neck is at. Again thanks
 
Here is some information and specs on the fuel tank.

It is a Polyethylene, 1 pc. tank in the exact same shape and size as the original. A 21 gallon tank with almost 1/4" thick walls. This tank can also be used on older pickups for those who want to remove the tank from behind the seat. ( Will also work on 69-70 trucks with minor modifications. ) 12 3/4 x 16 1/2 x 26 inches.

You can order it off of the Chevy Duty Online Store. It is part # 23-935.
 
The filler inlet is located on the top/side at a 45degree angle.So you could put your filler on either side of the bed.
 
Hum as my truck is a short bed step side this tank might not work, I was wanting to fill the tank from inside the bed rather than from the outside and was wanting the filler neck to be more toward center of the tank making less modifications to my bed. Thanks

I have seen a couple of these tanks installed into short stepsides.The filler will be located on either the left or right side.The filler could be inside the bed,and it will come up thru the wood floor.There is some pretty cool flush mount fillers on the market.You will also want the filler to one side incase you need to load up the bed.
 
What about the gas gauge? How will you know how much gas you have? Will the old gauge work with a newer sending unit? I just got the gas tank from a 94 chevy van thats just about a perfect fit. I've seen the fillers run to the corner of the bed, and I think they look nice when done right. I've seen like plugs cut out and fitted back over as a cover, so its hidden. But again how compatible is a newer sending unit with the old gauge?
 
The 1960-66 gas gauge is compatible with the Blazer sending unit.As for a late model gas tank being compatible,they have a higher ohms rating on there sending units.Its would be hard to get your gauge to work with it.
