power brakes

    I ordered the 7" Booster and a new mastercylinder from MPbrakes.com.

    Is it normal that i have to different pressures for front and rear? I use my original drum brakes

    I also installed the power booster in my 53'. I would not expect any pressures to change. But now I pull to the left sharply. Its dangerous as the drivers side wants to lock up and pull me into oncoming lane. Did I not get the passenger side front done correctly? I've got plenty of stopping power though!

    If you are using a proportioning valve then yes your pressures will be different from front to rear.

    You could have a couple of different problems. If you are running drum brakes on the front you could have a leaky wheel cylinder on the side that keeps locking up. If your drums were turned to thin that can cause problems too. Also if your front end is loose it could pull. If you have disk brakes on the front, you could have a caliper that is hanging up on one side which would cause it to heat up and fade causing the other side to pull or a roater that was turned too thin could cause problems also.

    Thanks Tim,

    Wheel cylinders and drums looked fine, however I have a bad kingpin on the passenger side. I've been putting off addressing that problem until further down on my to-do list.
    Would that do it?

    First of all,make sure your adjustments are correct. If the fronts aren't close in adjustment,they will pull to one side or the other. If you are still running drum brakes,there will be no difference in front and rear pressures.

    Well a loose king pin could cause it to pull or a loose tie rod end. Best thing to do would be to jack up the truck and shake the wheels and find out what's loose, check you brake adjustments and look to see if your wheel bearings are packed and adjusted properly. You could have a combination of problems. Just remember that pressure is pressure and with no proportioning valve it's all the same but if you have something loose, out of adjustment or leaking it can cause you to pull.....Big Tim :cool:
