Hello Group, I am having trouble figuring out what Steering Box I have on my 65 4x4. I put 76 4x4 running gears under it back in early 80s. I thought it was a 76 box. i am reading that Chevy changed to metric in 76.Where are they talking it is metric at? This box does not have a 0 ring seal at the hoses. The only casting numbers i am finding are the big S and a large 4 in one area and on the side 7802644 the nose has 5686815 stamped on it. Any help so I can get back on the road will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike T
According to these two threads they went to metric hose fittings/orings in 1980 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=280549 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=267573 And according to oreillys the first design had a L at the end of the casting # but you said yours has flare fittings, are you sure there's no L after 7802644 on your box? http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/s...make=Chevrolet&model=K20&year=1980&vi=1051850
