My grandpa owns a 1966 chevy styleside long bed truck with manual steering and has been trying to figiure out how to convert it from manual steering, over to power steering and hasn't been able to find out how yet,he really loves the truck (so he does not want to get rid of it) but has a very hard time turning it at low speeds and so I thought maybe you guys could help us out with this problem. So,do you guys have any info on this? Thanks in advance for any help and/or suggestions.
Welcome to the forum chev66!!!! best power steering conv. for 60-66 chevy/gmc models would be REZ, but they dont have a website.I know someone here has more information on REZ powersteering conv. that can help you out.
http://www.customclassictrucks.com/techarticles/60_66_chevy_gmc_power_steering_retrofit/index.html this site will get you started, the rez bracket you WILL need is sold here at classic parts. as long as you have a welder and a 1" drill bit you can get the job done in about 3hours. ive done it myself and i was amazed how easy it was. of course that depends on the individuals mechanical skills. try to get the pump and steering gear from the same donor truck, theres a split in years were the hoses went from sae to metric and will leak like a stuck pig if they dont match up.
As 66 KUSTOM saying that will get started, thats why I pulled back up the one thead about power steering.thanks 66 KUSTOM.
I have learned alot from DVAL just by reading his post we all would be lost without DVAL,like to meet him one day .just say THANK YOU!!!
