I am interested in a 66 w/ a delivery shell. I can pick it up for $2250. Original bed is in great shape. It has a straight 6, no drips from either engine or transmission. Body has some rust around edges coming thru paint. Frame is good, except for a couple of side frame members need changing. I have never restored anything in my life and the only reason Iam interested now is I DJ music and this would be great for my equipment. So, any response is appreciated. Thanks
"Frame is good, except for a couple of side frame members need changing. " I'm not sure what you mean here. Are they MAJOR support struts for the body ? They are most likely welded in so consider what that might cost to have done. The selling price of these trucks depends on two factors. Where you live and the general condition of the truck. Check your local paper to see what comprobable trucks are going for in your area. Having a cover over the bed, to protect the bed wood, is a plus. I know in my neck of the woods unrestored trucks of the condition you described go for between $1,200 and $2,000. Offer the guy $1800 and see what happens. Also, I need to throw my 2 cents in here. You will need to expect and on-going effort to keep the truck alive. Steering and brakes are big items here. The truck has drum front brakes so stopping a truck of it's weight is an adventure. For your business, consider another vehicle that has the cargo space you need, has more modern safety features, (disk brakes and three point seat belts), and won't cost much to drive to your gigs. The side support that hold up the side panels of the truck. They are about 12inches long attach on the outside of the main frame and the outside edge of the body. Is there a cure for the items you mentioned besides total replacement. I thank you for your response.
