What is the proper mounting position for the inside door release lever handles
I see photos with them vertical when the door is open and some with them horizontal when the door is open, i know theres a lock position opposite the open position but not sure what is proper position vertical or horizontal when the door is opened. Please advise
    Thank you

You're gonna make me break my shop manual out, aren'tcha? That's one of many design features that made these trucks "user friendly". If you didn't like kinking up your hand to grab the horizontal handle, all you had to do was get a screw driver and change it to verticle! There wasn't some deisgn nut coming up with a thousand different things you had to do first in order to remove the handle! (Like: First, disconnect the battery!!!!)
I was checking my Jeep manual to see what kinda CRAP I'm going to need to do to replace the valve cover gaskets. I was amazed that they made that pretty much straight forward- (They must have ran out of planning time, because I'm sure they could have put some presure sensitive part that needed a specialized tool that cost an additional $300 to remove one "fastener"...)
What was the FIRST thing I needed to do? Kill the battery!!!!
Can ANYONE imagine working in a garage back in time when one of these trucks would roll in for a gasket and the first thing the mechanic would do is "disconnect the battery"???

Sorry- I think you hit a nerve with that question.
    I LOVE simplicity!

    'S Not So Bad...

You position the window crank to where it'll interfere with the door handle and then move the door handle to it's _locked_ position and then adjust it on it's spline so there's one spline away from the two handles touching ~ see ? that wasn't hard .

So far I've been very unhappy with the set screws sold by the repop stores so I bought several $3.00 used handles to get prefect , ' Just So ' set screws , GM used FOUR different ones in the AD years , some had allen heads , others had slotted heads and then then were the usually lost , stubby screw you'd insert in on top of the handle holding screw , this prevented the darned things from loosening and falling out just as you opened the door over a mud puddle or bed of pea gravel so it'd fall into that and be forever gone....
