The GM HEI has a built in coil. The only wire needed goes from just under the cap. There are two posts labeled "Bat" and Tach".

Using 12 to 14 guage wire crimp on a female spade connector to one end. Run the other end through the firewall ( with a grommet ) to the PINK lead off the ignition switch. There are various types of connectors to splice into the pink ignition lead. Go to the local hardware store and look for a cripm on line tap. It makes it rear simple.
Regap the plugs to 40 thousands and you should be good.

If you connect the Bat lead directly to the battery you will find that once you start the truck, it won't turn off ! It needs to be wired to a 12 volt with the ignition "On".

Here is a link that might help more.
