RE: Question on stamp on block #Fii

Hey Sub,

When I was looking for an engine ID I came across the stamp too. Mine reads: F0301BE ... I forget where I finally got the info but mine means that the engine was built in Flint (F) on March 1 (0301) and that it was built between 58-60. My engine block number (7 digits) further confirmed that it's most likely a 60.

Try www.inliners.org ... click on Casting #'s on the submenu on the left and see if that nets you any info.... but I suspect there'll be others who will be able to give you lots more info.

RE: Question on stamp on block #Fii

Larry Bear is correct as to the numbers on the pad right behind the distributor on the motor. However if you are referring to the stamped in numbers on the front of the block, that usually arent very visible under the thermostat housing/water pump/ground strap to battery, etc. Those numbers I have been told(by an old timer from the Flint engine plant) refer to the plant (F=Flint), the Q-control inspector's ID number, and shift number, that sent the block down the line after machining. I've never been able to cross confirm that, but it seems to make sense.
