Okay, it's been awhile since I've worked on ol Mater (48 1 ton). Seems like one thing after the other around here. Anyway, I took my radiators (2) to get them flushed out and leak tested. Both are shot! Both cores are bad and the tanks on one of them are bad. I'd like to get a used one in good shape if anyone has any ideas where to get one. Beyond that, I guess I'll spring for a new one at the best price I can find. This guy wanted $500 to put a new core in the one. I told him I could buy a new one for 3. Maybe I'll try another shop first? Anybody got one in thier back pocket? Rick
Mater deserves a new one! Here's my take on this one. A new one will cost you from $270 to $370 depending on the vendor. Nowadays, it will cost you $500 plus to re-core. I ran into the same senario 3 years ago. My solution was a new one from Jim Carter. Gamble? Maybe! Results? 100% so far! I got the 3 core from them and have not had a problem so far. Something to think about. Before you buy, look at shipping costs! Also call your local radiator shop, as they might be able to score you a new one and save the shipping.
AD Radiator once in a while you'll find one with good tanks and can have it re-cored , I did that and now have a four row core . For new , go to US Radiator in Vernon , Ca. (Washington Blvd. IIRC) as they make them _correctly_ right here in the good old U.S. of A. and they have three row cores lkike they need unlike some of the off shore crappo ones that have two rows and are paper thin junk , for the same price .
