    Hey gang:

My 52 Chevy truck has a nicely functioning 6 volt system. I hate to change it to 12 volt.

My only gripe is that the old 1947 pontiac truck radio in it, even tho' rebuilt, is just too poor -- only a.m. of course, lots of static, etc.

Has anyone come up with a nice radio for these trucks that works on 6-volt?

    Any thoughts appreciated!

Lots of static means either the rebuild wasn't done correctly or (if it plays perfectly on the bench) there's some grounding issues , usually in the antenna (Ariel for our British freinds) or the radio's chassis to body grounds .

Failing that , if you just want a decent modern radio , go find a " Voltage Inverter " Radio Shack sold these by the millions up into the 1980's so they're out there , if you buy a used one be SURE to both get a money back warranty and have the seller clearly mark which wires connect where as I get them mixed up occasionally unless I mark them with masking tape when I'm taking it out of the junker.....

This thing will make a nice 12 volt output off a 6 volt input , you cannot run a 100 Watt bumping stereo but any old Kenwood or stock takeout thing will work fine , play your CD's et. , etc.

If you will be hunting the scrapyard for it , look in old VW's , they were 6 vots up to the 1966 model year so check 'em all , also look in old MG's etc. as this inverter device also flips posative to ngative , I used one in my 1967 MGB GT (posative ground system) to run a modern radio , it worked fine , no static whatsoever .

    I hope this helped .
