SHORT STORY, WHEN I WAS GIVEN MY 66 LONGBED, THE PREVIOUSE OWNER CHANGED OUT THE REAREND. HE PUT IN A 12BOLT FROM WHAT I BELIEVE, WAS OUT OF A 60S OR 70S IMPALLA. MY QUESTION IS, IS THIS 12BOLT THE SAME WIDTH (WHEEL MOUNT TO WHEEL MOUNT) AS THE STOCK 66 AXLE? I DONT HAVE THE ORIGANAL TO COMPARE TO. THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP. 66 KUSTOM

COOL, THATS WHAT I FIGURED, I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE, MY 12 BOLT IS 56 AND A 1/2 INCHES, (BACKING PLATE TO BACKING PLATE) WIDE SO ILL BE ABLE TO USE THE SAME BACK SPACING FRONT AND REAR. THANKS AGAIN DRABO 66 KUSTOM
I WOULD GO TO YOUR LOCAL JUNK YARD AND PULL A 12BOLT OUT OF AN EARLY IMPALLA, SELECT YOUR PREFERENCE OF POSI GEAR RATIOS AND INSTALL THEM INTO THE 12BOLT. YOULL HAVE TO GET A MOUNTING SHOE KIT FROM CHEVY DUTY TO INSTALL THE NEW REAR AXLE. REQUIRES WELDING AND SOME SKILL TO GET YOUR PINION ANGLE CORRECT, PLUS YOULL HAVE TO ADD A BRACKET FOR THE PAN HARD BAR. YOULL END UP WITH A FIVE BOLT WHEEL PATTERN BUT IF YOUR GOING TO CONVERT THE FRONT TO DISC BRAKE YOU CAN CHOOSE TO MATCH THE FIVE ON FIVE BOLT PATTERN SO ALL YOU WHEELS WILL MATCH. OR YOU CAN JUST REPLACE THE AXLES WITH THE SIX BOLT PATTERN AXLES. IT TAKES A LITTLE TIME BUT ITS ALL WORTH IT. 66 KUSTOM
