Rear coil springs, 65

replacing control arm bushings, any idea how to hold the square nut inside the lower part of the coil spring? its driving me crazy, i have tried using a 3/4 open end no luck it slips. thank you in advance for any suggestions.

i used vise grips.you should spray the bolt with pb plaster.

Try a 1/2" rachet drive with an extension and the correct socket. the extension will get the rachet handle up where the spring coils are spaced futher apart. Applying heat with an acetylene torch will also help in loosing and removing this bolt. I have used a propane torch that plumbers use to sweat copper pipes effectively it just takes a little longer. Good luck.

If you use a rachet make sure you use a six point socket instead of a twelve point. If the edges are rounded a little the twelve point will also slip and the six will not. Use the largest breaker bar you can get. Sears sells an 18 inch 1/2 drive I think. Also lots of PB Blaster.
