I am thinking about putting a new rear end in my 55 project. i was looking at a 1970's lincoln rear with discs and a posi. Anyone have any advice for me on this. i thought this would be a good start because it has the posi and the discs I was looking for, plus it is 60" wide. I started off thinking about the explorer rear but found it was way different. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Brad.

Most guys our age try to trade in their 55 rear for a 1970's rear....

That could lead to some problems !

It sounds like a good switch If its the right width your looking for.. always go with your gut feel !:)

    cheers

Brad, I used an 8.8 rear out of a 98 ranger. It's a strong rear available in several ratios. I pulled the entire rear with springs, frame brackets, cables and all, all in one piece. I also got the sway bar. I had to move the spring perches to the opposite side of the axle and mount the axle above the springs instead of below. Check out my journal above. Murray
