Was hoping someone could give me a play by play chat, of changing the rear main seal on a 55 2nd series 265. Guess what Im wondering about is how hard is it to get the top half out and then back in. Or should I leave this to a pro...............Thanks

    rear seal

not hard time consuming. start by removing oil pan, then remove rear main bearing cap , if its a rope seal you put the new rope in and roll it into the cap with something round. push it in the cap real good. then cut the rope about a 1/16 longer on both sides. then tuck it down into the cap. then pull seal out of block. there is a tool for inserting it. your parts house would have it. its a handle with a cable that looks like a Chinese finger trap. pull it in, then cut the ends long and tuck them in. reassemble .rubber seal just slide in. i almost forgot soak the rope in oil first
