Hi guys, forgive me if I am sticking my nose in but I have noticed on quite a few notice boards people talking about "wick" rear oil seals, and the way they always leak, if these are the same as the old white "rope" seals we used to have on old Jaguars then one thing you absolutely, positively had to do was soak the seal in engine oil overnight. To allow the seal to absorb plenty of oil, just smearing oil on it before or after installing is a waste of time, the first time you bang it off (run engine) the seal just burns, blackens and hardens, making it as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. If you soak it then it should eliminate the problem.

Just so ~ back in the day , they called these " dog turd " seals and the very best ones were made with....Asbestos so N.O.S. ones are good to find , just don't go wiping your nose after touching it .
