Am putting a stock original four speed into my truck that used to be a three speed vehicle. I have a '54 1/2 ton. Some trucks had a rear cross member that the transmission mounts to at the torque tube ball seal flange? Is it necessary for me to have this mount? When was that application used? Any help or wisdom on this issue here?

That rear trannt support was dropped after the 1947 year model . good luck finding the fiber shims needed to properly shime it up....

You -DO- need the cross member to strengthen the frame but the tranny doesn't touch it in a Muncie four speed .

Yep, It weighs about 135lbs but shouldn't need the extra support. On my '51 1tonner it is just hanging out in space, no crossmember. I do have a 1/2 ton (1950? frame) that was originally a 3spd, now a 4 that has that crossmember & mount to tranny. The mount is shot:confused: , after seeing the set up on my 1 ton truck I gave up on trying to find parts to fix it.
