Rear View Mirror mounting?

Okay, I'm putting my truck back together, and dig the rear view mirror out of a box, and can't see how / where it mounted. It has screws, but there are no screw holes in the roof above the windshield. I don't have a windshield, and it didn't have stainless trim about the gasket, so I know it didn't mount to that....... pretty sure there were no holes drilled thru the old windshield :-(
Only took it apart 4 years ago...... you'd think I'd remember!

The mirror ( inside mirror, RIGHT ? ),, mounts dead center above the windshield opening.

If there are no holes there,, drill new ones !!
