I forget who it was that said they had disks up front and a dual mc. I believe they said it wasn't power brakes either, and the truck stops just fine. What I'm wondering is- is there a remote fill set up for this mc? The only problem with under the floor is finishing out the floor. There was a neat idea about using a mirror to fill it from underneath, but I think that would work as well for me as patting my head while rubbing my belly. I'd have brake fluid in my eyes and up my nose and that would be that. Sooo, would a remote fill be able to be hooked up to a dual mc???? Thanks for your ideas!
I don't see why that a remote fill wouldn't work on a dual master. I don't think it matters what kind of master it is as long as it has ample brake fluid supply then you'll be fine. The remote fill would be gravity fed just as the reservoir on top of the master cylinder is. This is why that I think it wouldn't matter. I could be wrong but I'm sure someone else will come to our rescue. If you mount it inside the cab as mentioned last time then don't forget to suck out the brake fluid in the reservoir when doing your brakes or you will soak your nice pretty carpet in brake fluid. After the last time we discussed this it got me to thinking about what to do with mine. I think I've decided to go under neath. I've gotta be for sure quick because it's getting down to frame work time and it would be much easier to mount it with the cab off then to mount it with it on.
Ha Kevin, Maybe a remote reservoir like a clutch deal on one of my Volvo's or your BMW's would work ? Would help to give the system a few extra ounces of fluid.
I'm wondering how the remote line would hook up to the cylinder. If you have a dual mc, how would you would bleed the brakes through the remote? Without one to look at, I just wonder how the romote keeps both sides full. Doesn't the seal on the lid keep fluid from moving from one side to the other? Would the remote fill have two lines? I got the idea, I'm just not sure of the actual setup. Thanks to any clarification on this.
I am just going to cut another hole in the floor like the one shown here. This looks simple and I like simple. Gater http://brotherstrucks.com/techarticlesdetail.asp?techTitle=1947-1959%20DUAL%20MASTER%20CYLINDER%20CONVERSION
Great photos/instructions Gater. I like the welding rod idea for getting the general bend down. I still wonder how you'd hook a remote fill to this. The two hole idea is okay, but I'd have to connect the dots and make it an oval hole for total access. Then I'd cut a bigger oval for a cover and secure it with a couple of short tapping screws.
Forgive me for thinking old technology but I would be inclined to make it easy to remove (without using screws) by cutting a piece of 3/4 inch pine the shape of your oblong hole and attach it to the bottom of the cover piece. You could paint it black or whatever so that it would not be obvious. The wood would fit into the hole and hold the top in place while the mat or carpet over the cover would keep it from coming out. You could even put a seal around it attached to the cover. Just a thought. This would be very similar to the original hole cover. Gater
