Replace broken rear wheel stud, half ton

    Do you have to pull the half axles to replace a wheel stud, I hope you just pound it out, and pull the new one in. I have a manual, and it talked about removing the rear end cover, then some c clips, a bolt, and so on. If that is required I will take it to a garage. I had a 3/4 ton, and a punch and hammer did the trick.

    I replaced one in my 49 1/2 ton a while back. As I recall, I had enough access to the front and back side that I didn't have to pull the hub, but I had to "drill" it part way through and then use a large punch and sledge hammer because the stud fought me the whole way despite using heat, penetrating oil, etc.

    The replacement stud turned out to be slightly shorter in length than the stock studs which I didn't like but it'll work.
