Who would have ever thunk it would happen to an old AD truck. But it did!

I saw a sickening sight today fellows. I was out for a stroll thru the back woods today as usual (the Sheriff says let the troopers chase cars, you be seen where people live) I was actually looking for more AD trucks. That's what I do best (Tiger says). I scour all the back woods country roads looking for those fine machines, ooooops, looking for crime in action;) . When I just happen upon an 18 wheeler loaded down with old trucks. What could have been worse? The back vehicle was an old AD truck, curshed only enough from the top to ruin most of it for us fellows who search high and low for those old parts. The next in line was another old GMC approx in the late 40s to early 50s and I could go on and on but to make things worse, he pulls into a SCRAP YARD!!! I nearly got sick, I couldn't even pull him over or pull in the yard behind him. I just drove on past shaking my head, wondering where he found all those trucks that he had ruined

I know this probably didn't deserve a new post but I could not figure out another way to tell you all such bad news..

And some would say that there arent any more of these old trucks left, well there may not be many and now we know why... Because some IDIOT finds little or no value in the art of the past:mad:

Good news though, I found a 50 2 ton with a flat bed, guess where I found it? in a scrap yard. It is complete and they only want 500. They say that is the value close to what it would bring scraped out. If I can scrape the 500 up it will be mine on Saturday. I'm doing all I can to save these old works of art, but I need some help...

Maybe we could start a "SAVE THE AD'S FUND". We can all pitch in and when one of us finds an old AD that is fixin to be placed in the grave yard we can take from the fund and give new life to an old truck.. What a thought!

Then all we need is a large lot somewhere central in the US (sorry Brit) where we can park these rides until we can find a new home for a loving owner:D

Anyway, I've said my piece, cried my tears and spent more money I don't have.... Just don't tell my wife. I'm gona park it at a friends house until I can come up with a good story.

    With tear filled eyes........

You know some people just don't realize what they're doing sometimes. Can't you find a law that he broke or something and sentence him in life in prison to think about what he's done. Back home in Ky when people send nice old cars to the junk yard then usually the guy that owns the junk yard (good friend of dads) calls dad and a few other guys to see if they know any one who might want it. Atleast he respects the old stuff ya know. I know that I could end up like a lot of people and have a lot of money into a lot of different cars trying to save them, but some day it might be worth it 'cause these cars aren't going to be around forever, then the only thing you could do is buy a Southern. Man oh Man what a shame.

I say that the central location for all of these rescue vehicles should be at Ken's mom's house. There are many plusses to this.

    1. She loves old cars so she won't mind.

    2. She lives in the country so no one else will mind.

    3. She has the room to store these old cars, cause I know Ken has a few over there.

    4. And most importantly it's not that far from me so I can keep a CLOSE eye on them!!!!!!!!!!:D

What do ya say Ken, you gonna ask her or what? I would say you could keep them at dad's but he's already got about 20 or so cars on his property as it is. I think dad went out on a vigalanty buying spree and tried to save all the vintage tin around here.

You ask her when you meet her in May. She's kicked my butt for 52 years! She needs fresh meat!

I actually plan on being a Brazillionaire... And looking at a map, I'd say Kansas would be a better place for this yard. It's about as "in the middle" as you can get! I volunteer to spend my remaining days making sure these old bodies are respected and taken care of while they wait for new owners that will do the same!

    New Home Fund

I Knew you fellows would come thru for the ol gals. Now all we need is a fund. Maybe Ken and Zig would go ahead and kick in a few thousand each to start the pot as I'm sure you are gonna be rich soon.

Besides, how could a man put a $$$$$ amount on such beauty?

I knew we had to find some other place other than here because even though my father in law has a 200 acre perfect spot, just before I married his daughter he had 30 old vintage vehicles and paid a man to haul them off because people kept asking him to buy parts off them. What a @#&%($(#^%(, I could have been fixed up for life on old cars.

Maybe we could chip in and buy a role back wrecker to make the trips across the US to pick these fine machines up. Of Course it would have to be a 2 ton AD. Zig could paint it with some custom graphics and a sign on the door that says something like "SAVING THE BEST, FROM ALL THE REST" or something.

Anyway, I got to go look for more trucks....... I mean, go to work and patrol the back woods:D

    Recycling at what cost?

I hate to see the old trucks go. I have been watching them disappear around East Tenn for years due to our state and local government passing laws meant to clean up the country side and try to overcome the reputation that we hillbillies have to collect and never discard. (An earned reputation by the way)

I guess the insult that is added to the injury is that the metal from these old trucks will be loaded on ships bound for China. They will turn it into jack stands and other stuff that we will be forced to use because we can't find anything made out of metal that is made in the USA.

There is just something wrong with me holding my truck up on a jack stand that is made from one of its cousins. Its like marrying your sister or something. What has this world come to????

    pssssss don't tell...

There are A BUNCH of old ADs here. A BUNCH. That's why I got mine for basically nuttin'! Y'all'd die if you saw just TWO of the yards that I know of. The only problem is, the owners are dead and these trucks may not be as solid as mine is. The cancer is limited though.
I still want the AD resting yard!:D

I'd love to learn how to airbrush. When I was a teen, I could see myself making a living painting murals on vans or doing album covers! 'course that was through the smoke filled eyes of a younger (MUCH younger) me.:( The Gumbo's done- come and get it!

    OK Who Wants it

I hate to let it go, but I can't afford it since I'm working on the Boops ride.

It's the one I mentioned a few days ago. 1950 2 ton with flat dump bed. It's at Nacogdoches Scrap Iron. Will be scraped out pretty soon if someone doesn't buy it.

The owner said he will take 500 for it as is. I haven't seen it myself because it is 45 min away and havent been off work when they were open. I do have there telephone number if someone is interested. A good friend of mine has looked at it and says it is in really good shape.

    Let me know...

Hate to see it go to the grave  but I got to stop buying these things, got to many already.

Thats to bad. But I do understand that sometimes you have to say enough is enough. I could never work at a wrecking yard or scrap yard, I would be bringing to much stuff home that I couldnt live without. Chris :)

Not AD chevies, but kinda the same situation. I have four 1938-1950 Seagrave firetrucks in my dad's barn right now

I bought them to keep them from getting crushed.

They actually sold for way less than scrap value, so they could go to a place where they could live indoors.

Some people really don't appreciate art.
