The post Russ recently shared with us regarding a few vehicles (including a flatbed AD) out in the woods inspired me to do a little roadside sightseeing as well. I have passed both places many times before without stopping for photos, so I figured it was about time to take a look to see what was lurking about. The first three photos are of a property about 50-55 miles north of me. It's absolutely loaded with old big rigs, including an AD Chevy (seen to the far left in the top photo). By the looks of the doors, it has to be pre-1951. I didn't get any closer, as ya never know how a property owner will react to unexpected visitors. One of these days I might stop to ask questions about the collection. I don't know much about the "Big Bolts," but I'd like to learn!! These photos are only a cross-section of the trucks that are on the property. The last photo is of a pair of AD's about 25 miles north of me. I never noticed them until fairly recently. Maybe they are part of someone's project... or spare parts from a finished project. I may get a wild hair and stop to check them out a little closer sometime, too. Hope you enjoy the pictures! Damon
Old Trucks Thanx Damon ; I saw plenty of dead AD's Sunday but was too busy talking to my Son to stop & take pix .
Great salvage yard Thanks for sharing these finds. I get home sick for the US when looking at your photos as we dont have yards like that here in my country. Martinius.
European Junkyards Actually Martinus ; After WWII , we left towering piles o' junk all over Europe , then in the 1960's and 1970's , the busy bodies began to complain so we went back in and cleaned most of them out . A freind of mine used to go to Germany in the early 1970's and climb over the incredible piles of 1940's & 1950's cars to get at the hated Kafers (VW Beetles) , he could strip off as much as he wanted for about $10 per car . He'd bring it all back to Sunny Southern California and sell it off in an instant . I'd ask him about the non VW's in the photographs he'd take , he said no one wanted that junk . Go figure .
Remembering Nate My cousin from Salem OR served the army at Stutgart airbase in the 70- tees and he told me they had left a lot of these old ADS and militairy vehicles there when they moved out. Some people really made some good money on them thats for shore . Have a nice weekend Martinius.
Found another road side AD pick-up the other day. This time it's a GMC for Paul, Bilbo, et al. For those with more experience than I... does this visor appear to be original after market equipment, or do you think it's more of a 'home made' type of deal? I didn't get out of my pick-up to take a closer look, I was kinda in a hurry while on the road. Looks like it's been sitting there a while, and there's no "FOR SALE" sign anywhere near it. But if anyone is interested in it, let me know and I'll stop and ask sometime. It's only about 25 miles from my front door. Damon
It Looks Paper thin with rust but still lotsa good parts on it.... That's an aftermarket sunshade , there were many different brands back in the day .
